Hand-Silvered Distressed Glass
Class description: In this class, you will learn the art of hand silvering and distressing glass. You will also learn how to properly protect the back of your glass and the correct way to install for your clients. This class is for anyone looking to expand their portfolio into a new medium..mirrors! Turn ordinary glass into a stunning backsplash, accent wall or art niche.
Through an extensive process of trial error, Ruth has developed a way around the frustrating aspect of removing the backing of commercial mirrors, by simply avoiding it altogether. Since Ruth started working with this technique, she has dramatically cut down on her costs, and now approximately 1/3 of her business has become hand silvering distressed mirrors.
In this class, you will complete multiple glass tile samples to show your future clients.
Products Used: Angel Gilding mirroring supplies, silver solution and reducer.
Bio: Working as a decorative artisan/painter in Lubbock, Texas, for the past twenty years, Ruth has had the chance to work in different mediums of our craft. As we all know, we'll paint anything, if it sits still long enough. I work mostly in water-based products, both for health and environmental issues. I have had the pleasure of working in Dongguan, China, and Beijing, China. Lubbock, Texas has been my home for over thirty years, and I love it! We have a small company, Gio Studio, run by myself and my son, Jeremy Giovannetti. We have two part-time employees, Wendy Lavo, and Tina Holm that we couldn't do without.
Mixed Media Portraits
Class description: We’ll create semi- abstract, multi- textured portraits using a variety of unique mixed media techniques. We’ll work with Golden acrylics and mediums to incorporate fabrics, papers and found objects
into our portraits to create a work that is personal and unique.
Other: Students are encouraged to bring sentimental items from home such as pieces of fabric or copies of photos to incorporate into paintings.
Products Used: Golden mediums and paints
